Myrna Joy Edwards Walker, 80, formerly of Kopperston, died on Monday, March 5, 2018 at Hospice House near her home in Pinehurst, NC.

Born on December 30, 1937, in Monaville, WV, she was the daughter of the late John Lester Edwards (1907-1988) and Etheline Emma Epling-Edwards (1914–2000). In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carroll Creed Walker (1931-1994) whom she married on June 28, 1957 in Hatcher, Wyoming County, WV (per WV Marriage License Register, Wyoming County, WV, 1957, Page 54, Application Date: June 12, 1957).

Mrs. Walker was a 1955 graduate of Oceana High School and later studied at Beckley College. After working in Dayton, Ohio, she returned to Oceana, where in 1957 she married Carroll Creed Walker. They raised a family and lived for the next 37 years in Kopperston. She prided herself on having a home that was open to the whole neighborhood.

She was a member of the Delilah United Methodist Church in Oceana, serving as youth leader and singing a beautiful alto in the choir. Widowed in 1994, she moved to Pinehurst, NC, and to her last breath savored every moment with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her son, John "Mickey" Walker of Manassas, VA; daughter, Susan Walker-Jones and her husband Greg Jones of Palestine, TX; Susan's son, Andrew Jones, his wife Chelsea Jones, and their son Cohen Jones; Susan's daughter, Sara Jones-Blackshear, her husband Jim Blackshear, and their children, Katlee Blackshear, Maisie Blackshear, and Lochlyn Blackshear; daughter, Leslie Walker-Burns and her husband Danny Burns of Pinehurst, NC; Leslie's daughter, Stephanie Burns-Hendrix, her husband Matt Hendrix, and their children, Bailey Hendrix, Hannah Hendrix, and Jacob Hendrix; Leslie's son, Daniel Monroe and his daughter Addie, his companion Maegan Perkins and her daughter Makayla; Leslie's son SPC Hunter Burns of Ft Bragg, NC; Leslie's daughter, Katie Burns and her children, Xavier and Sean; brother Don Edwards and his wife Simone Edwards of Myrtle Beach, SC; and sister-in-law Alpha Walker of Charleston, SC.

Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 noon, Friday, March 9, 2018 at Evans-Calfee Funeral Service Chapel, 1081 Cook Parkway, Oceana, with the Reverend Ron Acord officiating. Interment will follow at Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny.
