Doran J. Hower of 214, 23rd Ave., died at 2:15 p.m. yesterday, Jan 7, 1977, at the Altoona Hospital following a brief illness. He was born in Shade Valley Jan. 4, 1891, the son of Charles and Emma Mae (Gilliland) Hower, and was twice married, to Esther M. Reese, who died in 1917, and then on June 10, 1922, to Helen Gertrude Clapper. Surviving are his wife, two children, George D. of Altoona and Mrs. Jeanne Jackson of Tampa, Fla.; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and a brother, Russell of Lewistown.

Mr. Hower was a member of the Fourth Lutheran Church, taught the Dan Sheetz Bible Class and was a member of the church council for many years. He retired in 1936 after 45 years of service in the works stores department of the PRR. He was a veteran of WWI, and served in France as a Sergeant in the Railway Transportation Corps. He was a member of Franklin Lodge 821, Railroad Clerks; Barracks 1035, Veterans of WWI; Mountain Lodge 281, F&AM, Mountain Council 9, Mountain Royal Arch Chapter 169, Mountain Commandery 10, Knights Templar, and Jaffa Shrine Temple.

Friends will be received at the Leslie E. Axe Funeral Home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow and in the church from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday.
