Charles Otto Johnson, 70, of Rt. 1, Crawfordsville, died Sunday morning in Culver Hospital. He had been in failing health the past year.
Born Nov. 26, 1891, near Frankfort, he was the son of Rudolphus and Sarah Swank Johnson. He was first married in 1911 to Nora May Thomas. He then married Lela Sparks in 1951.
Mr. Johnson, who was employed by the State Highway Dept. for several years and later by the County Highway Dept. until his retirement, he was a member of the United Brethern Church. He also was a member of the Fathers Auxiliary of the VFW.
Survivors include his wife, four sons, Alfred, Robert, and Lester of Crawfordsville and Eugene of Tacoma, Wash. a daughter, Mrs. Maxine Bair of Lafayette. a sister, Mrs Ada Knowles of Lafayette. Nine stepchildren, Mary Tuttle, Pearl Armstrong, Arthur Sparks, James Sparks, Alice Wright, Peggy Brashears, William Sparks, Beatrice Denham and Cora Waldon. 12 grandchildren and two great grandchildren
Funeral rites will be conducted at 2 pm Tuesday at the Hunt and Son Funeral Home here with Rev John Servies in charge. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetary. Friends may pay their respects at the funeral home.
