Mavis Meling was born January 10, 1925 on the family farm near Milton, ND, the daughter of the late Ernest and Nellie (Hanson) Meling. She grew up and attended country school near Milton. Following her education she worked for various area families. She was united in marriage to Arnold H. Staven on November 16, 1946 on the Staven family farm. The couple lived and farmed in Fertile Township. Arnold passed away on November 8, 2002. She continued to make her home on the farm until moving into the Park River Good Samaritan Center in December of 2014.
She was a member of the South Trinity Lutheran Church and WELCA of Grafton and the First Care Hospital Auxiliary. She enjoyed embroidery, gardening, canning, playing Whist and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Mavis is survived by her children: Ardis (Albert) Brandl, Fargo, ND, Wayne Staven and Cindy Staven of Park River, ND, and Tami Staven, rural Grafton, ND, 5 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Arnold, granddaughter Shari Novak, daughter-in-law Roberta Staven, and sister Enid Skaro.
Funeral services will be Monday, October 17, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at the Zion Lutheran Church of rural Hoople, ND. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at the South Trinity Lutheran Cemetery of rural Grafton.
