William Crispell died at his home in Albion, Noble County, Indiana on March 20, 1881, aged 77 years, 7 months, 23 days. He was born in Ulster County, New York, and in May 1837 settled on the farm where he died. In early life he became a member of the Presbyterian Church, and in 1848 when the First Presbyterian Church was organized in Albion he was the first Elder. From that time until near the time of his death he was never absent from his place at communion season and rarely was he absent from the public services. He was accompanied to the grave by a large number of the pioneers. (In the fall of 1840 he was a member of the jury which convicted John Lechner of the murder of John Farley during a drunken row at Rochester, then east of Ligonier on the Elkhart River. Lechner was subsequently hung at Goshen, the only known instance of an execution of a murder which took place in Noble County.)

William was in the cival war in Company B, 12th Ind Inf. He is in Sec A Row 11on the memorial in Noble County, Indiana
