Andrew Blackmon passed Saturday, Nov. 29, 2008, after a short battle with lung cancer.
Mr. Blackmon was born Dec. 18, 1931, to Robert and Ora Blackmon in Kansas City, Mo., and was raised by Beatrice Blackmon after the passing of his mother. He was the younger of two children. Andrew married his childhood sweetheart on June 19, 1955, and from this union three children were born -- Andre, Ellen and Effie.
Andrew retired from the U.S. Air Force after 20 years of service. Twenty years later, he retired from Sears as a service technician. He was active in St. Stephen CME Church and a member of the men's chorus and other service-oriented ministries. He also loved to travel and bowl, and appreciated music.
Andrew leaves to cherish his memory his loving children: Andre Blackmon, daughter-in-law Kim and their children, Justin, Jessica, Angela, Austin and Kallina of Phoenix, Ariz.; daughter Ellen Hardy, son-in-law Iaw Kereshawn and their children, Cottrell, Norvell, Twanise and Effie of Stockton; brother and sister-in-law, Amos and Carlos Blackmon of Danville; and a host of other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ella Gladys Blackmon, and daughter, Effie Lee Blackmon.
A viewing will held Thursday, Dec. 4 at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 5 at St. Stephen CME Church with Rev. David officiating. Andrew will be honored for his military service directly after the memorial service at Fairmont Memorial Park, 1901 Union Ave. in Fairfield.
