Lieutentant Negley was named after his grandfather, Albert S. Burleson, Postmaster-General in the Cabinet of Woodrow Wilson. He was the great-great-grandson of General Edward Burleson, Vice-President of the Republic of Texas.

Lieutenant Albert Negley Reported Killed
Information was recently received that 2nd Lieutenant Albert S.B. Negley was killed December 15, 1944 while being transported as a Japanese prisoner of war. The ship on which he was held was sunk by United States air action.
Employed in Manila at the time of the Japanese attack in December 1941, he joined the United States Air Corps, but as the situation developed he was assigned to duty with the ground forces and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant. He served in that capacity through the series of actions which ended in his capture when Bataan surrendered.
The death of Lieutenant Negley was preceded by that of his youngest brother, Lieutenant Richard Negley Jr. in air action against the Japanese in February 1942. He is survived by his parents Mr. and Mrs. Richard V.W. Negley of this city and his brother, Lieutenant William Negley, stationed at Fort Sam Houston.
