Child struck by car dies at Dallas hospital

Texas Department of Public Safety troopers are continuing their investigation today into the death of a 6-year-old struck by a vehicle Monday night on Farm-to-Market 906.

Justin Scott Allen Parrish of Chicota died at 1:20 p.m. Tuesday after being airlifted to Children's Hospital in Dallas, officials with the Department of Public Safety said today. Parrish was walking westbound in the middle of FM 906 at about 8:15 p.m. Monday when a car driven by Coy Nathan Pryor, 19, of Arthur City struck him from behind, DPS officials said. It was unclear whether Parrish was walking with or riding a bicycle when the accident occurred, a trooper's report states. Six Lamar County deputies and DPS troopers responded to the accident scene, dispatch records show. Paramedics were also summoned to the scene just west of the intersection of FM 197 near Chicota and transported the child to Christus St. Joseph's Hospital South.

Law enforcement officers and officials with the Lamar County Attorney's Office will determine if any criminal charges will be filed after the investigation has been completed, DPS officials said.
