Roland was ambushed and murdered with a rifle by Larry Parker as he and his girlfriend were leaving the Tradewinds Night Club in Chattanooga, TN at 12:55 a.m. May 1, 1973. Parker had been hired by Billy Hull to kill Roland because Hull was angry that Roland had been dating Hull's wife, Gloria Jean Hull. Both, Larry Parker and Billy Hull were convicted.
Billy Hull owned several Night Clubs in the Chattanooga area at the time and had built the "Tiki Mansion" on top of Missionary Ridge in Chattanooga.
