The City of Weatherford, County Seat of Parker County, Texas, was named in honor of State Senator Jefferson Weatherford. County historians learned little of this man's complete life story.

What is known is Mr. Weatherford was born in IL and came to Texas with his father, John Money Weatherford (1765-1837) & mother, Frances Weatherford (Spraggins) (1777-1829) around 1845, the family settled in Lancaster, Dallas County.

Prior to 1856 Parker County Territory was considered "part of the counties west of Tarrant." After County organization, Parker was in the same Senatorial District with Tarrant and Dallas Counties.

Jefferson Weatherford served as a State Senator, representing Dallas Co, 1853-1857 & 1861-1865 and joined with Representative Isaac Parker (Find A Grave Memorial# 14738956) of Tarrant County in supporting the bill which established Parker County.

Because of their support for the creation of Parker County in 1856, settlers named the county in honor of Isaac Parker and later named the County Seat after Senator Jefferson Weatherford.
