Mervin Roundy Allen, age 93 years 1 month and 14 days, passed away Sunday, Nov. 23, 2008, in Rupert.

Mervin was born Oct. 9, 1915, in Benson, Cache County, Utah, to William Berry and Rebecca May Roundy Allen. Mervin received his business education at Heneger Business College. On Nov. 25, 1937, he was married to LaVerda Edith Marchant in the Salt Lake LDS temple. He served in the U.S. Navy for two years during World War II.

During his working years, he was employed by the U.S. Postal Service, culminating in his retirement as assistant postmaster in Rupert. Mervin and LaVerda homesteaded north of Acequia in 1955 and loved the land. He has been a lifetime member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many callings. He and Laverda served two missions, one in Alabama and one in West Virginia. He also loved farming and fly-fishing and tending the gardens and flower beds around his home.

Mervin is survived by his children, M. Bruce (Joan) Allen of Kaysville, Utah, J. Grant (Nancy) Allen of Rupert, Donald E. Allen of Dallas, Texas, and RoZan (Ron) Egan of Rupert; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother, Ross R. Allen of Logan, Utah; and sister, Afton England of Salt Lake City, Utah. He was preceded in death by his wife, LaVerda Marchant; daughter, Lois Rae Allen; and sons, Timothy Kay Allen and David Shaun Allen.

Mervin loved serving others in quiet and unheralded ways throughout his life.
