Lightning Kills Camp Hood GI


Temple, May 28 (AP)--Army officials at Camp Hood announced Friday that one soldier was killed and five others were injured when lightning struck a group of soldiers on a training mission on the reservation Wednesday night.


Announcement of the accident had been held up pending notification of next-of-kin of the soldier killed.


Dead was Pfc. D. B. Anderson of Johntown, Texas.


The injured were Cpl. Marvin J. Bell, Davenport, Iowa, Pfc. Guadaloupe B. Castillo, Raymondville, Texas, Pfc. Moe Davilla, Raymondville; Pfc. Alejandro Duarte, Jr., Raymondville, and Pfc. Dolph Gaines, Hamilton, Texas.


The military officials said that the bolt killed Anderson outright. Two of the injured men were paralyzed temporarily.


The soldiers were members of the 41st Armored Infantry Training Battalion and recently had re-enlisted in the Army.

Sisters were: Mrs Della Nobles from Cunningham, Mrs Lola Bell Joyner and Mrs Odell Conreal from Clarksville, Mrs Oma Ham from Levelland . Brothers were: Marvin & C W from Bogata, Virgil from Cunningham, Claud from Waxahachie and Arthur in service in Germany.
