Janet M. Backenstoes, 72, of Laudermilch Road, Palmyra, died Monday, November 24, 2008, at the M.S. Hershey Medical Center. Born November 11, 1936, in Annville, she was the daughter of the late George W. Backenstoes, Sr. and Dora (Leese) Backenstoes and was also preceded in death by her daughter Janine B. Gibbons. She retired from The Hershey Company, attended the Jehovah's Witness Assembly Hall, Palmyra; was a member of the East Hanover Township Autumn Leaves and the Hershey Fitness Center where she was a part-time Aquasize instructor. She was the former organist at Bindnagle Lutheran Church, Palmyra for many years. Surviving are her brother George W. Jr., husband of Marian Backenstoes of Manheim; several nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held 1:30 PM Saturday, December 6, 2008, at Buse Funeral Home, 145 North Grant Street, Palmyra. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Bindnagle Cemetery, Palmyra. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
