Kenneth Ray Childress, 74, husband of Anna Faye Abercrombie Childress, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2008, at Self Regional Medical Center.

Born in Laurens, he was a son of the late Joseph and Nivy Graydon Childress, former owner and operator of Childress Cash and Carry and was a cattle farmer.

He served in the Army Reserves, was a member of St. James United Methodist Church, and the Proctor Sunday School Class. Mr. Childress was a member of the Cattlemen's Association and a former board member of Farm Bureau.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Karen Knight and husband Ricky, and Kim Penland and husband Kyle all of Laurens; four brothers, Thomas, David, Curtis and Wilton Childress all of Laurens; a sister, Louise Kelly of Woodruff; and three grandchildren, Ryan Allen, Anna Barrett Penland and Kevin Knight.

A committal service will be 3:30 PM Friday, Nov. 28, 2008 at Forest Lawn Cemetery followed by the memorial service at 4:00 PM at St. James United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Charlie Short.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. James United Methodist Church, 101 Richards Street, Laurens, SC 29360.
