Eratus enlisted in Confederate Service on March 9, 1862 as a Private in Company D, 28th MS Cavalry. Eratus was captured during the War and was a POW at Camp Chase, IL and was released from there at the end of the War.
Eratus married Miss Josephine Owen on April 13, 1871. Their known children are Pearl, Maude Daisey Jo and an infant son who died at birth. Eratus was a charter member of the Presbyterian Church of Greenville where he served as a Deacon and Elder.
