William was born on Blantonia Plantation which became Greenville, Ms. He is the brother of Orville Blanton and the son of William W. & Harriett Blanton. William enlisted in Confederate service on March 9, 1862 and served as a Private in Company D, 28th MS Cavalry. He was discharged on April 26, 1865. After the War, he married Miss Georgiana Smith, sister of James Maglin Smith. William owned Greenway Plantation where the Greenville Cemetery is located. Their known children are William, Ida Hicks, Ruth T. and George L.
