Family traditon says that Marion was born at Terre Haute, Vigo Co, Indiana. Philip and Amanda Barr Hinkle, who were his parents, lived in Daviess Co., Indiana, per census records. James and Catherine Barr, Amanda's parents, lived in Gibson Co, Indiana in 1860. We are not sure whether Marion was actually born in Terre Haute or just lived there before coming to Arkansas before 1880. His grandparents were Anthony J and Catharine Avey Killian Henkle (Hinkle). They were buried in the Cornettsville Cemetery, Daviess Co, Indiana.

I had previously discovered that Marion Frank Hinkle lived with John and Margaret Jones in 1870 per the US Census for Daviess Co dated 02 June 1870. We knew of the Jones family from family tradition. However, the US Census for Phelps Co, Missouri, dated 23 Aug 1870 listed the entire family as well. Marion's name was misspelled by the census taker and a correction has been submitted.
It appears that he may have followed one or more of the family to Fayetteville, given that Lucinda Jones married here in 1873. Lucinda Jones Edmondson and her mother, Margaret Jones, are buried in this cemetery.

However, the US Census for Phelps Co, Missouri, dated 23 Aug 1870 listed the entire family as well. Marion's name was misspelled by the census taker and a correction has been submitted.
