The marriage to Mary Layne in the 1910s was Peter Carpenter's second. His first marriage in 1896 was to Maggie L. Walter whose mother Sallie E. was living with the couple as of the 1900 Census. No grave was found for either Maggie or Sallie. The Census provides no evidence of progeny by either of Peter Carpenter's wives.
