Herbert Butcher

Herbert Darrell "Junie or June Bug" Butcher, 66 , of 785 Lynn Avenue Weston passed away at 11:07 a.m. on Saturday, November 22, 2008 in United Hospital Center of Clarksburg following an extended illness.

He was born in Lewis County on October 14, 1942: son of the late Herbert Darrell Butcher and Juanita (Butcher) Butcher. On November 17, 1995, he married Janice (Rymer) Butcher, who survives.

Also surviving are three daughters: Barbara Lovett and husband Buddy of Weston, Crystal Butcher of Parkersburg and Sherri L. Titus and husband Dwayne of Charlotte, NC and three sons M. Thomas Ramsburg of Mineral City, OH, Stephen K. Peters and wife Penny of Weston, and Michael "Tony" Butcher of Jackson Mill. Also surviving are seven grandchildren Jeremy D. and Mariah Jo Read, Mason L. Lovett, Allaysa and Tyler Moore, Ryan Curtis, and Magan, Shannon, and Chelsa Cayton and his beloved animals Smokey and Maggie Mae.

Mr. Butcher was employed by Moore Business Forms of Buckhannon for 30 years and was with Kohl Madden in Pennsylvania for 8 years. He was a volunteer fireman with Weston Fire Department for 46 years and Jackson Mill Fire Department from 1977-1982 and was fire chief from 1980-1982. Herb was a fire instructor for WVU for several years, a HAZ Mat instructor, a certified Rescue Diver, and took several explosive classes. Herb was a true "Smoke Eater." His fellow firefighters say his specialty was roof ventilation and recall that as an instructor, he liked to push the envelope in teaching the hazards of certain chemicals and their reactions to each other. Herb was a lifetime member of the Lewis County Emergency Squad.

Friends were received at the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home, Weston, on Tuesday, November 25. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. from the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home chapel with Reverend Clifford West officiating assisted by Chaplain Cecil Sprouse of Weston Volunteer Fire Department. Interment will follow services in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens of Jane Lew. Full Fireman honors will be conducted by Weston Volunteer Fire Department.
