Elmer Leo Nitzsche, 93, died at St. Mary's Nursing Center in Detroit Lakes on Tuesday, Jan. 8. The son of Julius and Barbara Nitzsche, he was born at Wisner, Nebr., on July 6, 1908.
Mr. Nitzsche grew up and attended school in Nebraska and farmed there until moving to Frazee, where he farmed until moving to Cass Lake in 1949.
He owned and operated a hardware store until retiring in 1970.
Mr. Nitzsche lived in Cass Lake until he and his wife (Ruth) moved to St. Mary's Nursing Center in 1999. He enjoyed driving school bus, gardening and restoring old furniture.
Surviving are his wife-Ruth; three daughters-Betty (Frank) Hershberger, Frazee; Mona Ross, Phoenix, Ariz., and Mary Berge, Cass Lake, and two sisters-Lillian Erb and Clara Roth, both of West Point, Nebr. There are nine grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, five step-children and numerous step-grandchildren.
Preceding Mr. Nitzsche in death were his parents, his first wife (Wilma), three brothers-Albert Nitzsche, Art Nitzsche and Dan Nitzsche and three sisters (Emma Birky, Bertha Nitzsche and Annie Egi).
Funeral: Monday, Jan. 14, 2 p.m., Cass Lake Christian and Missionary Alliance church, with Rev. Glen Birky officiating.
Interment: Pine Grove Cemetery, Cass Lake.
Arramgements: Thomas-Dennis Funeral Home, Cass Lake.
