Daughter of Colonel John H. Branch and Martha L. Ramsey. Married Lieutenant Elisha Spencer Benton on 01 Mar 1886 at Newport, Campbell County, KY.

Their infant daughter is buried in the family plot of Mary's sister (Anna Branch Van Duzen) at Spring Grove Cemetery in Cincinnati, Ohio. At the time, her husband was in the United States Army, assigned nearby at the Newport Barracks, Kentucky, where he commanded the 3rd Artillery Co.
