FRED MORRISON BATES was born June 28, 1863 in Poweshiek county, Iowa; died near New Sharon November 6, 1897. He leaves a young wife and two small children, who have the sincere sympathy of a large circle of friends and relatives. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the residence of his father-in-law, M.S. Barr, Rev. Teter officiating. His disease was consumption. He made a brave battle for life, and longed to live to care for those he loved, and submitted only to the inevitable. He was universally respected, and was followed to the grave by one of the largest funeral processions ever witnessed in New Sharon. ---CARD OF THANKS --- To the kind and dear friends who so kindly assisted up in our recent sad bereavement, we wish to extend our heart felt thanks.
