Verda moved from Montrose with her family to Centerville, SD when she was 7 years old. She attended Frog Creek rural school and Centerville High School. She married Iver Erickson on August 24, 1940. To this union were born her three children, Larry, Mary Kay and Barbara. The couple lived on their farm until 1975 when they moved into Centerville. After Iver died in April of 2001, Verda continued to live in Centerville until the present time.
Verda was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith and was a faithful member of Scandia Lutheran Church where she was active in the Ladies Aid and the quilting group. Her hobbies included embroidery, reading, quilting, baking and cooking. Verda will always be remembered for her gentle smile and her generous heart. She was willing to help those in need and kept her home open to anyone who would stop by. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and a faithful friend.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 2 granddaughters, Emily Erickson and Lisa Snoozy, 4 brothers, Bill Holt, Joseph Holt, Art Holt and Orville Holt, and 2 sisters, Gladys Bishop and Thelma Ward.
Her survivors include her three children: Larry Erickson and wife Marlene of Centerville, Mary Kay Snoozy and husband Bob of Sioux Falls and Barb Hansen and husband Ron of Rapid City; 5 grandchildren: Angela Poches, Katherine Kotsios, Tom Snoozy, Linda Wodzinski, and Darren Erickson, 9 great grandchildren; her twin sister Verla Knudson of Centerville, brother Gene Holt of Santa Barbara, CA and her very good friend Ina Peterson of Centerville.
Funeral services will be 2PM, Monday, November 13 at Scandia Lutheran Church, Centerville, SD, with burial at Riverview Cemetery, rural Centerville. Visitation will be Sunday from 4PM to 8PM with family present from 7PM to 8PM at Wass Funeral Home in Centerville.
