Services for Jackie G. "Butch" Abercrombie Jr. will be held today at 2 p.m. at Barham Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Joey Everett and Joe Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Mr. Abercrombie, 46, of Bailey, died Friday, July 21, 2006, at University Medical Center in Jackson. He was a corporal of the training division of the Meridian Police Department.

Mr. Abercrombie was a member of the Church of God at Frazier Grove. He was a range master for the Meridian Police Department, serving with the department for 21 years. He was also a sergeant in Company B 111th Auxiliary of the Army National Guard, having served 20 years. He served in the special forces and did a tour of duty in Iraq.

Mr. Abercrombie was president of the Meridian Lodge F.O.P. and also worked security for Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center.

Survivors include his wife, Leann Abercrombie of Bailey; two sons, Chris Abercrombie and Tyler Abercrombie, both of Bailey; his mother and stepfather, Carolyn and David Dendy of Bailey; his father and stepmother, Jackie G. Sr. and Helen Abercrombie of Blairsville, Ga.; a sister, Natha Rivers of Bailey; a brother, Robbie Abercrombie of Acworth, Ga.; a grandfather, Grady Abercrombie of Blairsville.; three stepsisters, Karen Porter, Terri McLeod and Christine Dendy; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Joe and Lynn McWilliams of Meridian; and numerous friends and relatives.

Pallbearers will be the Honor Guard of the Meridian Police Department. Honorary pallbearers will be Vance Moore, Jeff Warren, Bobby Wilder, Mike Myers, Ron Pennington, Keith McCary, Jay Arrington, Todd Null, Earl Everett and Raymond Crawford.
