James was born October 1, 1927, the son of Forest Edward Rabon and Esta Mae Plumb. He graduated from Northeast High School in 1945. He married his beloved wife of 50 years, Joan Isabelle McPherson on November 1, 1947, who preceded him to heaven in 1998. He was a lifelong resident of the Kansas City area James was a professional engineer and retired from Tredegar Industries.

He attended Celebration Community church in Lee's Summit, Mo. He also had many friends in the first Baptist Church of Raytown. He was an active supporter of Youthfront and also missionaries in Japan. He is survived by four children and their families, Judy and Dale Lawrence, Joyce Hunt, Jane and Nathan Metsker, and Jeff and Lisa Rabon, his nine grandchildren, Becky Scott, Marilyn Minnis, Rusty Hunt, Vann Hunt, Joshua Metsker, Justin Metsker, Joanna Metsker Daniel Rabon and Madelyn Rabon and five great-grandchildren, Rachel Beasley, Ryan Ford, Shelbi Minnis, Koby Minnis and Hannah Hunt who enjoy many memories of him.
