Bert was the son of William Harvey Cox and Ellen Jane Telfer. He married Ada Mosher on 13 November 1900 in Carroll, Iowa. They were the parents of Myrtle Mae, Ella Fay, Ray and Richard. He married 2nd Flora Miller between 197 and 1920.
Carroll Daily Times Herald - November 21, 1977 - Bert Leander Cox, 99, of rural Glidden in the Lanesboro area, died following a long illness at the St Anthony Nursing home Sunday at 12:30 pm where he had resided for the past three weeks. Prior to this, he had lived at the Carroll Manor for one year.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday at the Lanesboro Methodist Church wtih Rev. Warren McFote officiating. The casket will be moved to the church at 8:00 am Wednesday, to lie in state. Internment will be in the Dickerson Cemetery north of Glidden, under the direction of Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home, Glidden.

He was a lifelong resident of Lanesboro area and was a retired farmer at the age of 92. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Lanesboro and the Farm Bureau.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs Ted (Ella) Crum of Des Moines; six grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by both wives; a daughter and two sons, two grandchildren and three sisters.
