Barack Eddy's early childhood days were spent in Nova Scotia, but at the outbreak of the War his parents returned to the States. He purchased a piece of property in East Putnam, CT, of Azariah Cutler on June 28, 1794 and in 1802 the land adjoining. He carried on the blacksmith trade and in addition had a sawmill and grist mill. He was a good workman and an obliging neighbor. He was a man of strong physique and of excellent health. On April 26, 1815 he purchased the farm to which he moved his blacksmith shop and there he spent the remainder of his long life. On the day that he was 80 he set four sets of tires. This was a day's work of which he was very proud and of which he often boasted.
