Mary Elizabeth Early, the daughter of Henry and Elizabeth Early, was born in Pickaway County, Ohio on May 3, 1813. On June 26, 1831, she married Henry Neville, Jr., the son of Henry Nevill, who was one of the early settlers of Pickaway County. According to the 1930 History of neighboring Franklin County, Ohio, "Henry Nevil offered one hundred and fifty acres of land on the high bank in the Pickaway Plains to be divided into lots and sold for the purpose of raising money for the erection of state buildings, or to superintend the sale of lots himself and guarantee the sum of $35,000 for building expenses. (For the establishment of the state capitol.)" See also the History of Pickaway County by Van Cleaf (1906).

Henry and Mary had a son, William S., born on February 13, 1834. Sadly, Henry Neville died on January 9, 1833 of cholera. In 1838, Mary and her son William relocated along with Mary's mother, Elizabeth, and step-father, Colbert Stewart to Ogle County, Illinois.

According to the records of Ogle County, Illinois on April 23, 1840, Mary Early Neville married Stephen Bemis, who was a widower with three children. They resided on the Bemis homestead in the area of Honey Creek. Stephen and Mary had six more children: Henry Harrison, Achsah Ann, Cassius Clay, George Washington, Clinton Joseph and John Early Bemis.

Mary died on July 3, 1886, and was laid to rest at Daysville Cemetery.
