Melva Fern Meyer, 78, of Cole Camp, died Sunday, November 23, 2008, at St. Mary's Health Center, Jefferson City.� She was born on November 30, 1929, on the Burke family farm east of Cole Camp, a daughter of Edgar and Laura (Wiechert) Burke.
On June 21, 1953, at Bethlehem Church, rural Cole Camp, Rev. Oscar Heimsoth united her in marriage to Nathan Meyer.
Melva attended Balke Prairie School and graduated from Stover High School in 1948.� After receiving her teaching certificate from CMSU Teacher's College in Warrensburg, she taught all eight grades at Pleasant Union School between Cole Camp and Stover.� For 10 years, she was a special education teacher's aide at Cole Camp R-1.� She had worked as a bookkeeper for W-K Chevrolet in Cole Camp and Brockman's Feed Service in Ionia and as a purchasing agent at Parkhurst Manufacturing in Sedalia.� She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Cole Camp, where she had served as church secretary and was a member of the Martha Circle.� For more than 20 years, she volunteered as a 4H leader.� She loved gardening and flowers.
She is survived by: her husband, Nathan Meyer of the home; two sons, Ron Meyer and his wife Sue and Don Meyer and his wife Beth, all of Sedalia; one daughter, Bonita Riley and her husband Rich of Cole Camp; nine grandchildren, Kristen Elliott, Jessi Young, Jennifer Shoemaker, Jana Young, Alan Meyer, Kevin Meyer, Levi Riley, Zack Riley, and Taylor Riley; and three great-grandchildren, Garrett Elliott, Clayton Hambsch, and Madilyn Shoemaker.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 26, 2008, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Cole Camp, with� Rev. Todd Kollbuam officiating.� Burial will be in Bethlehem Cemetery, rural Cole Camp.
A prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the Fox Funeral Home in Cole Camp, with visitation to follow.
The family suggests memorial contributions be given to Bethlehem Cemetery in care of the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Elliott, Clint Shoemaker, Alan Meyer, Kevin Meyer, Levi Riley, and Zack Riley.
