George was the son of Solomon Cox & Sarah Dossey. He married Nell Hanna on 20 Jan 1876 and they had 8 children. On 16 Sep 1900 he married Anna Lenard King and they had 8 children.
OBITUARY - 4 Apr 1942
COX: George W. Cox, Sr., 84, died at the home of his daughter, 2201 Canterbury Street. Mr. Cox's home was in Red Rock. He had served as a Baptist minister for 50 years. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Annie Cox of Red Rock; seven daughters, Mrs. Sallie Meers of Brady; Mrs. Annie Robinson of Kingsville; Mrs. Emma Harris; Mrs. Mary Robinson and Mrs. Nettie Culpepper of Austin; Mrs. Eula Mae Yoast of Red Rock and Mrs. Ruth Harris of San Antonio; four sons, Sollie Cox, George W. Cox., Jr., Jim Cox and Lawrence Cox, all of Austin; one brother, Sollie Cox of San Angelo; two half-brothers, Eugene Roberts of Lovington, N.M. and P.P. Roberts of Austin. Funeral services were to be held from the Cook Funeral home Saturday at 3 p.m. by the Rev. C.L. Sparks, assisted by the Rev. Matthew Baker, and at 5 p.m at the graveside in High Grove Cemetery near Red Rock.
