Robert "Bob" L. Ammons, 92, of Amarillo died Saturday Nov. 22, 2008.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Minton Chatwell Funeral Home Chapel in Borger with the Rev. Jeff Hutchison officiating. Burial will be in Highland Park Cemetery.

Bob was born Sept. 11, 1916, in Waldron, Ark., to Hilery and Lores Ammons. As the second born among a family of nine children, Bob remained on the family farm until after graduating from high school.

He then joined the U.S. Army on March 20, 1941. He trained in Sydney, Australia, and served his country with great pride during World War II in the East Indies and New Guinea through the Philippine Liberation.

Having received the Presidential Unit Citation, American Defense Service Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal and quadruple Bronze Stars, World War II Victory Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon and Bronze Star, Honorable Service Button and Good Conduct Medal, Tec 4 Ammons of Company B 43rd Engineer Construction Battalion, he was honorably discharged July 12, 1945.

Bob chose Borgerto begin his new life and start a family. He worked in the oil fields for Haliburton for 25 years, retired and then he went fishing!

Dad loved his family, and we loved him dearly. We have been blessed with the gift of love and laughter from our Dad and our lives will be a little dimmer without his bright smile. Happiness and affection for life were often expressed by Dad with a song and a little dance of joy.

To all those special caregivers that graced his life in the past few years, we would like to share our own little dance of gratitude.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, three brothers; three sisters; and an infant son.

Survivors include his wife, Billie; two daughters, Debbie Hall and husband Bob of Wheatridge Colo., and Denette McClain and husband Tracy of Amarillo; a son, Drexel Ammons and wife Dena of Amarillo; and stepson, Rusty Ricks and wife Lois of White Deer; two siblings, Bill Ammons and Bernice Dickerson, both of Wichita, Kan.; 14 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be to Jan Werner Adult Day Care, 3108 S. Fillmore St., Amarillo , TX 79110.
