John was the husband of Elizabeth ? 1808 - 1892. She is believed to be buried at Hopeful Cemetery, Fayette county, Georgia in an unmarked grave. This information was also passed down to us by Minnie Lois Oakley.
John was the father of James Madison Oakley 1826-1911 buried at Bethany Cemetery, Fayette county, GA. and Sallie (Oakley) Bishop b. 1828 and Martha (Oakley) Bailey b. 1830. We are not sure where Sallie or Martha are resting.
A memorial stone for John and Elizabeth was placed at Hopeful Cemetery during a dedication service held in December 2011. The Thompson brothers, descendants through John and Elizabeth's son James Madison and grandson William Jebediah Brewer Oakley and great granddaughter Ruby Elizabeth Oakley arranged the dedication service. The service was attended by other Oakley and Oakley related family members.
