Mrs. Maucea Horsley Nicholas, 84, mother of Charles Nicholas, retired chief photographer of The Commercial Appeal, died yesterday at Care Inn on Joy Lane, where she had been a resident for 11 years. She was the widow of Charles A. Nicholas and a member of Whitehaven Baptist Church. Memphis Funeral Home Poplar Chapel has charge. She also leaves three daughters, Mrs. Henry C. Nolen Jr. and Mrs. Frank M. Sweet Jr., both of Memphis, and Mrs. Horace W. Clark Jr. of Callas; two sisters, Mrs. Garland Strawn of Memphis and Mrs. Jack D. Brown of Atlanta, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
