Ted Horn, Indianapolis 500 race car driver. He won the National Championship title in 1946, 1947, and 1948. He became the first three time winner, during those years he placed third twice and fourth in the Indianapolis 500 races, giving him ten straight finishes in the top four. He still holds the best ten year streak of finishes in Indianapolis 500 history. He completed 1944 out of a possible 2000 laps for a 97 percent finish standing, He started the 1947 race from the pole position and he had the third fastest qualifying speed behind Bill Holland and Duke Nalon. In 1948 he clinched the championship with a third place finish at the DuQuoin, Illinois track in September. A month later at the same track he crashed during the second lap, he passed away in a hospital a short time later. He was named to the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame in 1991 and inducted into the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America in 1993.
