CUBA CITY, Wis. -- Ione M. (Simon) Jansen Spoerre, 88, of Stonehill Care Center, Dubuque, formerly of rural Cuba City, died at 11:05 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 20, 2008, at the Care Center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 24, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Kieler, with the Rev. Bernie Root and the Rev. Francis Steffen concelebrating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Miller Funeral Home, 1185 Route 35 N., East Dubuque, Ill., where the parish rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Friends also may call after 9:30 a.m. Monday at the Immaculate Conception Parish Center, Kieler.
She was born on Dec. 27, 1919, near Louisburg, daughter of Peter and Theresa (Reimenapp) Simon.
She married her first husband, Elmer J. Jansen on Jan. 9, 1940, in Kieler; he preceded her in death on Aug. 2, 1965. She later married Edward F. Spoerre on June 30, 1973, in Kieler.
She was a member of Immaculate Conception Parish and its Council of Catholic Women.
Ione loved baking, a good game of euchre and dancing.
Surviving are her husband, Edward F. Spoerre; two daughters, Theresa (Roger) Richardson, of Platteville, and Mary Anne (Michael) Gau, of Peosta, Iowa; five sons, Earl L. (Doris) Jansen, of Cuba City, Edward P. Jansen, of Hazel Green, Burnell M. "Butch" Jansen, of Cuba City, Gene G. (Donna) Jansen, of Bellevue, Wash., and retired Major James R. (Debra) Jansen, of Bellevue, Neb.; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two stepdaughters, Patricia Ann (Brian) McConnell, of Barneveld, and Nancy Ann (Steve) Callaway, of Mosinee; four stepgrandchildren; and a stepgreat-grandchild.
She also was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Catherine Unger; a brother, Ralph Simon; and a daughter-in-law, Jackie Jansen.
