Born April 6, 1926, in Corriganville, he was the son of the late Harvey Ray Kirby and Bertha Alice (Smith) Kirby. Mr. Kirby was also preceded in death by a brother, Elwood Kirby; and a sister, Maude Blank.
A United States Army-Air Force Veteran of World War II, Mr. Kirby retired from Pittsburgh Plate and Glass. He was a member of the Mount Savage United Methodist Church.
Mr. Kirby is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary E. Kirby; his daughters, Sheree Emerick and her husband Rick and Lisa Winebrenner and her husband Bryan, all of Mount Savage; his sister, Iola Dickel, Virginia Beach, Va.; his grandchildren, Shelley Howard and her husband Jay, Misty Emerick and her special friend Michael Bobo and Kirby Winebrenner, all of Mount Savage; his great grandchildren, Jacob, Gabriel, and Nathan Howard and Zain Bobo; as well as numerous nieces and nephews who affectionately referred to him as Uncle "Duney" and/or Uncle Kirby.
Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, (adamsfamilyfuneralhome.com) on Thursday, Sept. 20, 2007, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday, Sept. 21, 2007, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Max Greenfield officiating.
Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.
Interment will be at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap.
