Eldon Glenice Beavers, 85, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 20, 2008, in the afternoon of his 85th birthday, surrounded by family.
Funeral: 2 p.m. Monday at Southcliff Baptist Church. Interment: Laurel Land Memorial Park. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Laurel Land Funeral Home.
Eldon was born on Nov. 20, 1923, in Abbott, the first of three sons to Wayland and Jessie Beavers He was schooled in Hillsboro before being drafted into the U.S. Army, serving in World War II as an army medic. In 1946 he married Grace Marshall in Weatherford and shared 43 years and three children until her death in 1989. In 1991, he married Leona McMahon of Fort Worth.
Eldon was a successful businessman, founding a trucking business in 1949 known as Sand Trap Service Company, Inc. As the family business grew, he became affectionately known as "Chief" to his employees. Later, an extension of the business, Cold Springs Processing, would be added. Eldon was a member of the Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce and the Better Business Bureau.
Mr. Beavers was a member of Southcliff Baptist Church for more than 40 years and a former member of Evans Avenue Baptist Church, having served in many capacities throughout that time. He instilled in his family a love for gardening and a way of looking at life through a great sense of humor.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Grace; his parents; and one brother, Virgil Beavers.
Survivors: Wife of 17 years, Leona Beavers of Fort Worth; children, Sherry Ruddle of Fort Worth, Gary Beavers and wife, Linda, of Weatherford, Terry Galloway and husband, James, of Santo; grandchildren, Carrie Ann Hummer and husband, Mark, of Burleson, Chad Beavers and wife, Jodie, of Millsap, Kim Mills and husband, Steve, of Saginaw, Ross Beavers and wife, Riana, of Weatherford, Ryan Galloway and wife, Amber, of Fort Worth, Mary Beavers of Weatherford, Shoshana Soria of Weatherford and Megan Galloway of Santo; great-grandchildren, Brandon Nowlin, Wayne Radford, Tori Mills, Connor Galloway, Reagan Beavers, Aiden Galloway, Ezequiel Soria, Hayden Beavers and Lincoln Beavers; brother, Vernon Beavers and wife, Glenda, of Longview; sister-in-law, Fern Beavers; half sister, Judy Thomas and husband, Don, of Dallas; extended family, Donna Burns and husband, Mike, and their five children and Donald McMahon and wife, Tina, and their three children; several nieces; and numerous friends.
