Ernest Christian Clayton, 81, passed away on November 19, 2008 in his home.


He was born January 12, 1927 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Ernest and Ines Clayton. He was married to Barbara Berkley, divorced, then later married Rena Inez Coombs on February 11, 1968. Ernie was raised in Salt Lake City where he attended Horse Mann Middle School. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Ernie retired as a shop superintendent from Castle Metal in 1980 and later worked for Sandy City and Unisis. He went on to watch his family grow. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, camping, woodworking, and teasing the children then sending them home.


Ernie is survived by his wife, Rena Inez Clayton; children: Russell Clayton, Connie Clayton, Suzie Stiehl (Bill), Peggy Clayton, Jean Bice (Vince), Cindy Malcomson, Bill Anders (Shelly), Mark Anders (Cathryn), Donna Christensen (Ryan), and Crystal Gafa (Brent); 34 grandchildren, and 67 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; two sisters; a son, and a grandson.


Funeral Services will be held on Monday, November 24, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at the LaVerkin LDS 7th Ward Chapel, 70 South 300 West, LaVerkin, UT. A visitation will be held on Sunday, November 23, 2008 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Hurricane Valley Mortuary, 140 North Main Street, Hurricane, UT and on Monday from 9:00-9:45 a.m. prior to the services at the LaVerkin Chapel.
Interment will be in the Moroni City Cemetery.
