Lorain County lost two men on February 6, 1968. LCPL Michael Drennen Milburn of Elyria was 20 years old and a radio operator when he died on February 6, 1968, of fragmentation wounds from a rocket attack at a command post at Quan Nam, near Da Nang. He was attached to the "G" Battery, 3rd BN, 11th Marines, a unit of the First Marine Division. A 1966 graduate of Elyria High, he played for the American Legion junior baseball team before enlisting in the Marine Corps in October of 1966. He left behind his parents and 3 brothers. He is buried at Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Lorain, Ohio. R.I.P.

The body of Lance Corporal MIchael D. Milburn, who was killed in action in Vietnam, arrived at the Reichlin Funeral Home during the night on February 23, 1968. The 20-year-old Marine was killed in a command post at Quan Nam, near Da Nang, Vietnam, on February 6, 1968. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles D. Milburn of 325 Gulf Road.

Friends were received in the funeral home on February 25, 1968, and February 26, 1968. The body was taken to the Washington Avenue Christian Church at noon on Tuesday, February 27, 1968, where funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on that day. The Reverend Maurice W. Fogle, pastor, officiated. Burial was on February 27, 1968, in Ridge Hill Memorial Park.

Sergeant Steven M. Pound, USMC, of San Francisco, California, accompanied the body to Elyria, Ohio. Military rites were conducted by the Marine Reserve Center of Cleveland, Ohio.

Lance Corporal Milburn was attached to G Battery, Third Battalion, 11th Marines, a unit of the 1st Marine Division. He graduated from Elyria High School, Elyria, Ohio, in 1966. He had been in Vietnam since August, 1967.

Memorial to a dead Elyria Marine was dedicated on April 26, 1968, as a tree was planted at Ely School in honor of Lance Corporal Michael D. Milburn, 20, former pupil. Tamping ground around the tree was I. Richard Wainright, school principal. Also participating in the ceremony were (left to right in photo) Mr. and Mrs. Charles D. Milburn, 325 Gulf Road, the youth's parents; his brother, Douglas, an Elyria High School student, and Leslie, third grader at Ely, and Sergeant Dale Williams, local Marine Corps recruiter. Several classes at the school also witnessed the ceremonies in honor of Corporal Milburn, who was killed in action in Vietnam.
