John had some legal trouble in the early 1940's, John lived under the alias, Robert Harris migrating from Paola, Kansas to Cleveland, Ohio. There he married Marcella Woods, they later divorced. He was killed as Robert Harris in Cleveland, Ohio and buried in Paola, Kansas with his birth name John E. Lindsey.
Surviving him were two daughters, Fannie M. Jones and Willie Eva Reed. Six grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. One sister, Susie Blake and two brothers, Lester L. and Raymond D. Lindsey.
Preceding him in death was his parents John W. & Eva M. Lindsey, wife "Tootsie" Etta Vantrece Lindsey, son, Berdell E. Lindsey, four sisters, Anna Lindsey Steele, Fay F. Lindsey, Hattie Duncan and Geraldine Beechum and three brothers, Carl W., Marwood P. and Charles A. Lindsey.
