Joseph Carrington Brown was born in Lynchburg, Va., May 7, 1866, and died in Albuquerque, N M July 10, 1915, from heart trouble. He came to Osage City in 1880. For a year or two he was employed in the Carbon Coal company, and later went into the Osage County Bank, where he was a bookkeeper and assistant cashier for twelve or fourteen years. He was married June 9, 1900, to Miss Julie Miller, daughter of W W Miller, and when he left the employ of the bank he accepted a position with the Fred Harvey system, where he was auditor for seventeen years, and was one of the company's best men.
Joe Brown had many friends in Osage City who will grieve with the near relatives in the loss of one who is dear to each one of them. Those of the family remaining are: Robert Brown of Kansas City, Mo; Will C Brown of Bishop, Va; Mayo Brown, Lizzie Brown and Cornelia Brown of Lynchburg, Va and the widow Mrs Julia Brown.
The pall bearers were the following Masons: A C Rosser, T J O'Neil, W S Martin, Frank Hunsicker, J W Jenkins and Ben Lauer.
