Funeral services for Allen E. Campbell, 84, were held Thursday Apr. 17, 1997, at the Afton Tabernacle.
He was born Dec 21. 1912 in Fairview, the seventh of eight children born to Lottie Dewey and Chester f. Campbell. He attended schools in Afton, graduating from Star Valley High school in May 1931.
He then attended Weber State College and University of Utah, graduating with bachelor of science degree in history and political science in 1936. He also obtained a master's of science degree in school administration from Utah State University in 1957.
Upon graduation he taught elementary school in Etna from 1936-37 and high school in Burlington, WY from 1937-39.
While teaching in Burlington Allen met Ellen Pearson, an elementary teacher form Idaho Falls. They were married Feb 24, 1940 in Idaho Falls. They returned to star Valley to teach in Bedford, later making their home in Afton.
Allen was principal of Star Valley Jr. High from its inception in 1954 and taught classes in the high school through 1968. He was principal of Metcalf and Holdaway elementary schools until retirement in 1978.
Community service was always important to Allen, serving as Boy Scout Scoutmaster, president of Lions Club and active in the civil defense program.
In 1964, he was elected Lincoln county Representative to the Wyoming House of Representatives. As a legislature of the house and worked for education funding.
He will be remembered for his love of life, and for his love of beautiful Star Valley. He was never too busy for family and friends and remained active until his time of death. Allen often remarked that he had had a wonderful life. He has influenced and taught many people and was a source of inspiration to all who knew him.
Allen is survived by his wife of 57 years. Ellen Campbell of Afton and his six children; Carol Ann Peterson, Richland, WA; Robert Campbell, New Harmony, UT; Richard Campbell, Bluffdale, UT currently residing in Minek, Belarus; Debra Izatt, Afton, Barbara Johnston Kuna, ID; Susan Pauling, Laramie; 20 grandchildren 21 great grandchildren and brother Blaine Campbell.
He was preceded in death by one son, his parents, two brothers and four sisters.
