Carol J. Lockhart, 56, died Saturday, October 10 at her home in Grand Island. Mrs. Lockhart was born February 27, 1936, at Grand Junction, Colorado, to Ralph and Clara (Hassett) Steele. She grew up and went to public school in Grand Island. She graduated from Mary Jane's School of Beauty and received her cosmetology and instructor's licenses. On Dec. 13, 1953, she married Jack D. Lockhart in Grand Island, where the couple made their home. Mrs. Lockhart worked at Mary Jane's, later becoming the owner and operator of the school. In 1977, she bought the Golden Horseshoe Bar in Cairo. She owned and operated the bar until a bout with cancer in 1987. At the time of her death, she worked at Shannon's Pub in Grand island.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and later was a member of the Methodist faith. Survivors include two sons, Kevin and Timothy, both of Grand Island; two daughters, Kimberly Keck of Lincoln and Hali Dawn Lockhart of Grand Island; eight grandchildren; a stepbrother, Robert Williams of Grand Island; and a special friend, Gene Baasch of Grand Island. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, her mother and grandson, Bradley Green.
