Jack Thornton, 93, passed away Thursday, Dec. 13, 2007.
Graveside service: 2 p.m. Tuesday in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Visitation: noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday at Mount Olivet Funeral Home.
Jack was born Aug. 31, 1914, in Leon Junction. He graduated from Gatesville High School in 1935, then went to Texas Wesleyan College on an athletic scholarship and graduated in 1941. Jack played pro-basketball in Sheboygan, Wisc. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force until 1945. Some of his accomplishments are as follows: He worked at the Fort Worth Boys Club, received his master's degree from Texas Wesleyan University in 1952, coached basketball and football at Brewer High School for three years and coached basketball and football at Stripling Junior High School until 1968. Jack worked in the Fort Worth high schools as a driver education instructor until retirement in 1982. He then became manager of the Fort Worth Driving School from 1982 to 1989 before retiring again. He was a member of Meadowbrook United Methodist Church.
Survivors: Son, Larry Randal Thornton and wife, Kay, of Kennedale; grandson, Kameron Chase Thornton; and great-grandson, Dylan Tyler Willison.
