GEORGE BALDAUF DIES
PROMINENT CITIZEN AND BUSINESS MAN
PASSED AWAY SUNDAY
Stricken two weeks ago with ap-
oplexy, sence which time he had made
a valiant fight for life, George P.
Baldauf, age 61 years, 8 months and
3 days, died last evening at his home,
923 Main Street. For a time after the
stroke came upon him he seemed to
be regaining strength and there was
hope that he was on the road to re-
cover. Last week, however, he began
failing rapidly and for several hours
before the end it was realized that he
was beyond hope.
The deceased was born in Pitts-
burg. Pa., 1855, and was the son of
George and Magdaline Baldauf. He
is survived by John Baldauf, a broth-
er, Mrs. Charles Lanz and Mrs. Ann
Startz, sisters, Mrs. Mayme Baldauf,
daughter-in-law and her daughter, Be-
atrice, with whom he made his home.
The devotion between the deceased
and the daughter-in-law was very
marked.
Mr. Baldauf came to Elwood more
than a quarter of a century ago from
the east and held the position of su-
perintendent at the Macbeth-Evans
glass factory for twenty-two years.
Following his retirement from that
position he had since been in business
here. Mr. Baldauf was a quiet but
patriotic citizen, interested in all
movements for the advancement of
the city and was enthusiastic in all
lines of municipal work. He was a
man with a great circle of friends
here and his loss is one that will
cause general sorrow in the commu-
nity.
The funeral will be held in St. jo-
seph's church Wednesday morning.
Rev. B. Biegel in charge, and inter-
ment will be here. Fuller details con-
cerning the funeral will be announc-
ed.
