Funeral services for Mertha A Martin, 101, will be held at 10:30 am on November 29, 2002 at the Reed-Culver Funeral Home with Rev. Clayton Conley officiating. Burial will follow at the Tahlequah City Cemetery under the direction of Reed-Culver Funeral Home.
Pallbearers include grandsons and grandsons-in-law. The grandchildren will sing, Amazing Grace and In the Garden, accompanied by Beth Herrington.
Mertha Ann Martin was born February 25, 1901 in Drake Creek, Arkansas, the daughter of Jasper Lafayette "Fate" and Martha Ann (Drake) Eubanks and she passed from this life on Tuesday, November 26, 2002 in Tahlequah.
She spent her early life in Madison County Arkansas before her family moved to Tahlequah.
Mertha attended the Normal School in Tahlequah.
She was married to Sanford Milton Martin on July 14, 1922.
She had taught school at Qualls and Buttermilk.
She was a faithful member of the Tahlequah First Baptist Church, where she was an active member of WMU, the Girls Auxiliary and she also arranged flowers for he church.
She was active in the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and local garden clubs.
Mertha was preceded in death by her husband; two daughters, Betty Louise Martin and Wahlelle Walkup; a brother, Hobart Jackson; and sisters Bertha Dean and Chloe Eubanks.
She is survived by three daughters, Wanda Cantrell and Wilma Berry of Tahlequah and Patsy Ford of Ponca City; 14 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, four great great grandchildren and many other family and friends.
