Born in Germany, Mr. Arnold was educated in the public school near his home and the high school in Damstadt. He came to St. Louis in 1866 and became connected with the firm of J.G. Haas & Company, which was doing business in the manufacture of soap on a small scale, having been established in 1863. In 1874 Mr. Arnold became interested in the firm, taking charge of the interest of his father-in-law Mr. J. G. Haas. The firm then became known as the J. G. Haas Soap Company and Mr. Arnold became the secretary of the corporation.
