Police Officer Michael L. Draeger, age 26, succumbed to burns received one month earlier when his clothing caught fire following an accident. He was responding to an officer needs assistance call when his patrol wagon collided with another police car. He was able to free himself from the wreckage but his gasoline-soaked clothing caught fire.
He was transported to a burn center where he succumbed to his wounds one month later.
Officer Draeger had served with the agency for 5 years. He was survived by his wife and two children.

Although he left without giving his name, Max was eventually identified and told reporters that he gave the cash in memory of his grandfather, a Milwaukee Police Department officer who was killed in the line of duty in 1974.
