Vito was born at Montecorvino, Pugliano, Salerno, Italy, 404045N0145639E. He remembers, when he was a little boy, his mother sweeping the ashes from their porch when the Mount Versuvius errupted. On the 7th of April, 1906 the eruption reached the climax with lava fountains and earthquakes. The eruptive column of ash and gas reached the height of 13000 m. permanent activity since 5 July of 1913.
He emigrated on 29 Apr 1909 from on the SS Europa, Montecorvino Pugliano, Salerno, Compania, Italy; Vito was born at Montecorvino Pugliano, Salerno, Italy either on the farm at San Vito or the house in the Sorbo section or neighborhood of Pugliano. They came to America via NY the 29 April 1909, on the ship "Europa La Veloce" accompanied by his parents and four sisters. There is a picture taken at Aunt Josie's wedding about 1913 of Vito, his father Domenic and Gaetano DiNapoli, who was the Best man at the wedding. Declaration of Intention, Bergen Co. Court of Common Pleas, Vito age 24, bookkeeper, 5 feet 11 inches, brown hair, brown eyes, arrived in New York on the SS Europa 29 April 1909 (Cert. of Arrival #26568) from the port of Naples. Petition for Citizenship states Vito married Mary Louise on 31 Aug 1924 at Begota, had children both born in Hackensack. The Petition #15898, 22nd Sep.1930 (Intention #16301) was granted 15 Jan. 1931.
