Russell Franklin Dowdy, 51, of Sparrow Road, has been completely healed of diabetes and all the struggles of life. He is receiving all that God has promised to those who belong to Him.

Russell has deeply missed his parents, Katie and Owen Dowdy, and his best friend and brother, Bobby. Russell loved to laugh and he had a genuine concern for people who were struggling. He loved his son, Jeff, and his daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Hector Chavez, and adored his two-year old granddaughter, Lea Marie. He would want you to show love and compassion for his family including his siblings, Elinor Keys, David Dowdy, Barbara Baker; and his dog, Sparky.

Russell would want to encourage you to be an organ donor and give the gift of life as he has done.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Elizabeth River Baptist Church, 601 Sparrow Road, Chesapeake, with the Rev. A. Wayne Cook officiating. Burial will be private. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Indian River Chapel, is handling arrangements.

God is good and his mercy is fresh and new each morning. Remember to take time to enjoy laughter and life. It is a very valuable gift.
